Privacy Policy

This policy explains what data the Instituto Corrente do Bento website collects, why, who it is shared with, and what you can demand from us. It is written to be read, not to be filed away.

Data protection officer

The data protection officer (DPO) is Caesar Carrera, reachable at dpo@correntedobento.org.br.

This address is deliberately separate from the general contact: requests for access, correction or deletion carry a legal deadline, and mixing them with adoption questions is the easiest way to miss it.

Who is responsible

Instituto Corrente do Bento, Brazilian tax ID (CNPJ) 68.822.770/0001-53, based in Curitiba, Paraná, is the data controller for this website under Brazilian Law 13.709/2018 (LGPD).

For anything concerning personal data, including the rights listed below, write to dpo@correntedobento.org.br.

What we collect

Two groups, quite different from each other.

  • What you send us: when you fill in an adoption, sponsorship, volunteering or contact form, we collect your name, e-mail, phone number and the message you write. The adoption form also records the three declarations you tick.
  • What the site observes: with your consent, we use Google Analytics to learn which pages are visited, for how long, where visitors come from and on what kind of device. This data is statistical and does not identify you by name.

Why we use it, and on what legal basis

  • To answer what you asked for — adoption, sponsorship, volunteering or a question. Legal basis: preliminary steps related to a contract, at your request (art. 7, V), and the institute’s legitimate interest in keeping a record of the case (art. 7, IX).
  • To understand how the site is used, so we can improve it. Legal basis: your consent (art. 7, I), given in the cookie notice and revocable at any time.
  • To meet legal obligations and accountability duties where applicable. Legal basis: compliance with a legal obligation (art. 7, II).

Who we share it with

We do not sell, rent or trade your data. It is processed by service providers, each with one job:

  • Supabase — the database holding interest submissions and the animal records. The servers used by this project are located in São Paulo, Brazil.
  • Hostinger — website hosting and the domain e-mail service.
  • Google — Google Analytics, only if you accept analytics cookies. Google also processes this data outside Brazil, including in the United States.

How long we keep it

  • Interest submissions: for as long as the case is open and, afterwards, for as long as the institute’s records require — an adoption request is part of the story of an animal still in our care.
  • Site analytics: up to 14 months, per the Google Analytics setting.
  • You may ask for deletion at any time, and we comply unless the law requires us to keep the record.

Cookies

A cookie is a small file the site stores in your browser. We use two kinds:

  • Necessary: they keep the site working and remember your own choice about cookies. They do not require consent, because without them the site does not run.
  • Analytics (Google Analytics): stored only if you click “Accept” in the notice. If you decline, no Google script is loaded at all — it is not one cookie fewer, the script never reaches the page.
  • To change your mind later, use the “Cookies” link in the site footer.

Your rights

The LGPD gives you the right to know whether we process your data, to access it, to correct it, to request deletion, to withdraw consent and to know who we share it with, among others.

To exercise any of them, write to dpo@correntedobento.org.br. We reply as soon as possible and within 15 days at most.

Security

Database access is enforced by rules inside the database itself, not only in the screens: someone without permission cannot read the data even by going around the site. Administrative access is individual, password-protected and logged.

No system is impenetrable. Should an incident pose a relevant risk to you, we will notify you and the Brazilian data protection authority.

Children and teenagers

This site is not directed at people under 18 and we do not knowingly collect their data. Adoption and volunteering processes are conducted with responsible adults.

Changes to this policy

When the site changes what it does with data, this page changes with it and the date at the top is updated. Relevant changes will be announced on the site.
